First sign language training course held in the EP

2013. 02. 28.

This is the only training of its kind in the European Institutions. "By having organised this sign language course, the European Parliament has proved its real commitment to help increase the accessibility of people with disabilities. I also urge the EU Institutions to take further steps to ensure the much better inclusion and accessibility of disabled people", said Kósa.

Ádám Kósa, as an active international sign language user, had a unique meeting with the participants and the trainer. "It is my pleasure to acknowledge that the European Parliament and its administration had a sincere response to the needs of disabled people: after the adoption of my Report on the inclusion of people with disabilities, the EP took the lead in mainstreaming accessibility, especially for the deaf community, in this case."

"In addition, a €750.000 new pilot project on an innovative and online IT application for sign language users will make the 2014 elections more accessible for the deaf and the hard of hearing", Kósa continued.

"I am proud that the European Parliament, as the highest representative body of European citizens, quickly responded to the challenges of accessibility. However, a lot of further steps should be taken in the future to ensure the much better inclusion and accessibility of disabled people in the EU Institutions", concluded the Hungarian MEP.
